  • The U.C. Santa Barbara Ultimate Frisbee team began in 1984. In 1985, they became the Black Tide in support of a book written about the oil spills off the Santa Barbara coast. Without any fear of exaggeration, the UCSB Black Tide have been the most consistently successful Ultimate Frisbee college team since the beginning of UPA College Ultimate.
    Regionals: 2nd place.
Black Tide placed second at regionals held in Fort Collins last weekend. After beating Long Beach in semis on universe point we played Colorado in the finals on sunday. The Mama Bird proved too tough for our exhausted team but we came together and crushed UCLA in the second place game.

    Nationals: 9th place.
Tide had a rough first day, losing to Minnesota 15-12 and a crushing loss in the afteroon to Cal. Yet we came back on Saturday to win games agaist Kansas and then Florda, the first seed in our pool. This, however, was not enough to make it into pre-quarters but a good boost to moral.

On Sunday we came out stong beating our rivals, the UCSD Squids. Tide came out strong again to win a close game against Harvard 13-12 found oursleves playing in the nineth place game vs. Middlebury. We took a commanding lead and finished the game 15-8 though they proved the most fun opponents.

Thanks for all your support and stay with us for big things next year!!
